Full Description

By 1825, there was a small four-sailed windmill at Sutton Bridge, 200 yards south of the present position of the Cross Keys Bridge. It might originally have been a drainage mill since there is the vestige of a creek behind it, but it was later certainly a corn mill. It was owned by Guy's Hospital, and in 1864 it was leased by George Prest and occupied by John Smart. By 1882 the miller was James Todkill. The mill was demolished in 1903. {1} The location of the mill is depicted on the 1st edition 6 inch Ordnance Survey County Series map. The mill is labelled as being a corn mill at the time of this survey. {2}
