THE SETTLEMENT OF CLOUGH IS ONE OF THE LONG ESTABLISHED HAMLETS IN GOSBERTON, ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT MENTIONED IN DOMESDAY. CLOUGH IS A FEN WORD FOR A SLUICE. {1} This area is likely to be the medieval core of a long linear settlement which became more densely populated and built up in the eighteeth and nineteenth centuries. {2}
