Full Description
THE 'NEW FENDIKE' WITH C13 REFERENCES RUNS ALONG THE LINE OF HAMMOND BECK. IT IS DIFFERENT IN QUADRING FROM THAT FURTHER SOUTH. THE 'OLD FENDIKE' IS ALSO THOUGHT TO BE C13 OR OLDER. SCATTERED FINDS OF MEDIEVAL POTTERY ARE RARE BETWEEN THESE TWO BANKS. H E HALLAM ALSO THEORISES THAT THEY MAY BE PRE-852 AD. {1}
APs of c.2000 show earthworks along the route of the dyke, although these are likely to be the earthworks of the modern watercourse. {2}
