In Moulton West Fen there is a large loose settlement with industrial sites. The area is very complex but was occupied rather briefly. A very large group of small and highly irregular enclosures was identified. The more north westerly industrial sites were curvilinear, whilst the more southerly and easterly sites which were both industrial and domestic were polygonal and quadrilateral. The southerly and easterly sites were closely linked with a watercourse/drove complex which approaches from the east, curves south and then west and emerges north west. The watercourse and separate drove run south. {3}
A large but loose compound which is very complex but was occupied rather briefly. Irregular small ditched enclosures related to an elaborate but not easliy traced watercourse and linked by droves, form a complicated group of no less than twenty four separate Romano British domestic and saltmaking sites including four red hills (a Roman coastal site producing salt by boiling of seawater). The sparse pottery indicated a predominantly 2nd century occupation. One late 4th century sherd is probably accidental. Querns, bones and teeth were found, and saltern debris included briquetage, evaporation pans, and baked clay floors. {1}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}{8}
