Full Description
THE QUEEN STREET TOBACCO FACTORY WAS FOUNDED IN C.1897, AND WAS A CIGAR FACTORY UNTIL 1907, WHEN IT BECAME A PRINTING WORKS. IT WAS THEN A PEA PICKING WORKS, AND WAS A SEED WAREHOUSE UNTIL 1960. IT WAS DEMOLISHED C.1970 FOR ROAD WIDENING. THE CORNER SITE WAS OCCUPIED BY A THREE STOREY INDUSTRIAL BUILDING C.14 BY 56 BY 26 FT HIGH. APPARENTLY BUILT IN THE GROUNDS OF A TWO STOREY BRICK AND PANTILE HOUSE. THE OFFICE WAS SINGLE STOREY BRICK C.21 BY 26 FT, AND WAS ADDED LATER. THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE WORKSHOP WAS ONLY 51 FT 6 INS LONG WITH WC OF HOUSE TO THE EAST OF IT. THE UPPER FLOORS OF THE WORKSHOP EXTEND OVER THE TOP OF THE WC. WINDOWS OCCUPY MOST OF THE SOUTH WALL OF EACH FLOOR OF THE WORKSHOP. {1}
