THE GRAND SLUICE WAREHOUSE WAS BUILT C.1766 WHEN THE WITHAM NAVIGATION WAS IMPROVED IN THE 1760'S. IT IS A RED BRICK TWO- STOREY BUILDING DIVIDED INTO FOUR BAYS - EACH BAY HAS WINDOW- DOOR- WINDOW ON EACH FLOOR. GROUND FLOOR DOORS 9FT 1IN WIDE, FIRST FLOOR DOORS 4FT 9INS WIDE. IT HAS A PANTILED ROOF. IT IS LOCATED BEHIND THE WHARF AT GRAND SLUICE, AT THE SOUTHERN END OF THE WITHAM NAVIGATION. 188FT 7IN BY 22FT 9INS, HEIGHT TO EAVES 19FT 8INS (ORIGINALLY C. 23FT), 12FT 5INS FROM EAVES TO RIDGE. THE LOCK KEEPER'S COTTAGE AT THE SOUTH END WAS DEMOLISHED C.1960. {1}
