Full Description

ORIGINALLY THE STANWELL AND MAWSON CIGAR FACTORY WHICH WAS A TWO-STOREY BRICK BUILDING WITH A SLATE ROOF WITH A YARD, INCLUDING A CHIMNEY, AND THE LATER LAUNDRY EXTENSIONS WERE IN THE YARD, INCLUDING A CHIMNEY, AND LATER EXTENSIONS WERE TO THE SOUTH AND WEST. THE BUILDING WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1970 AFTER STANDING EMPTY FOR TWO YEARS. {1} STANWELL AND MAWSON TOBACCO AND CIGAR MANUFACTURERS ESTABLISHED IN BOND STREET BEFORE 1861. MAWSON MARRIED A DAUGHTER OF THORN (ANOTHER BOSTON TOBACCO COMPANY) AND MOVED TO THEM IN 1882. STANWELL AND CO REMAINED, BUT BY 1884 THE PREMISES HAS BECOME THE BOSTON STEAM LAUNDRY. THE BOSTON STEAM LAUNDRY COMPANY WAS FOUNDED IN 1884 WITH A CAPITAL OF ONLY 2000 POUNDS AND ADAPTED THE FORMER CIGAR FACTORY IN BOND STREET. {2}
