Full Description
DURING AN EVALUATION AT 11 WIDE BARGATE POST MEDIEVAL REMAINS WERE RECORDED. THESE REMAINS INCLUDED A BRICK AND STONE-LINED PIT, THE EDGE OF AN EAST-WEST DITCH, FRAGMENTS OF A BELL-MOULD, A LARGE PIECE OF SLAG, WOODEN PINS AND A WOODEN BOX LID. A ROUGHLY CONSTRUCTED WALL REUSING C15 BRICKS AND STONE WAS ALSO OBSERVED, WHICH SEEMED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH AN EARTH FLOOR. OVERLYING DEPOSITS INDICATED A DELIBERATE PROCESS OF GROUND RAISING FROM THE LATE C17 ONWARDS. {1}{2}
