DURING A WATCHING BRIEF AT 3 NEW STREET, A SUBSTANTIAL WALL WAS RECORDED. IT WAS ALIGNED NW-SE ALONG THE LINE OF THE C12 BAR DITCH TOWN DEFENCE. IN PLACES THE WALL SURVIVED TO A DEPTH OF 3M AND WAS TRACED FOR 4M; ITS WIDTH WAS GREATER THAN 70CM. IT WAS INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT THE WALL COULD BE PART OF THE TOWN WALL.
