Full Description
PRN 13313
DURING A WATCHING BRIEF AT 35 PADDOCK GROVE A LARGE FOUNDATION TRENCH WAS OBSERVED CUTTING INTO THE ALLUVIUM, PROBABLY FOR TENEMENTS CONSTRUCTED IN THE VICTORIAN PERIOD. HOWEVER, WITHIN THIS TRENCH AND PROBABLY SERVING AS FOOTINGS FOR THE TENEMENTS BUILDINGS, WERE REUSED BLOCKS OF MEDIEVAL ECCLESIASTICAL MASONRY. THESE ALMOST CERTAINLY DERIVED FROM THE CARMELITE FRIARY, KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN LOCATED IN THE AREA FROM THE C14. {1}{2}
