Full Description
Cropmarks of unknown date and function have been noted on aerial photographs of this area to the north of Sutterton. It has been suggested that the cropmarks might mark the site of the former deserted medieval settlement of Riche, known from documentary sources to have been somewhere in the area around Wigtoft, Sutterton and Algarkirk. A number of old footpaths also appear to converge in this area on historic maps, possibly marking this place as a junction of historical routeways. {1}{2}
The identification of this place with the former settlement of Riche remains quite speculative; general consensus prefers to place this site further west, closer to (if not underneath) the modern village of Wigtoft. The exact function and origin of the cropmarks previously noted in this area remains uncertain. {3}{4}
