Full Description
An early 19th century milepost, depicted on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map. It is labelled as marking Lincoln 11 miles away, and Sleaford 6 miles away. {1}
The post appears to be in its original location, and was photographed in August 2012, as part of the Lincolnshire Heritage at Risk survey. It is made os cast-iron, and is identical in design to the listed (though now missing) example lying a mile further north (see MLI88323). The post has a triangular plan with a chamfered top, with raised lettering inscribed 'Parish of Ashby. LONDON 121'. The left-hand face is inscribed 'To SLEAFORD 6 MILES', whilst the right-hand face reads 'To LINCOLN 11 MILES'. {2}
