Full Description

Former retort house at the Louth Gas Works (see MLI86518). The exact date of construction is uncertain, though is thought to be at some point in the 1940s, when the works were owned by the United Kingdom Gas Corporation Ltd, and prior to Nationalisation in 1949. The structure is a rare surviving example of a stage floor, horizontal retort house, built of steel framing with red brick infill. The structure is of four storeys and has a pitched roof covered by corrugated metal. The letters 'UK' are marked on the north-western gable, facing the Louth Canal. {1}{2}{3}{4}
