Full Description
Cropmarks of a Neolithic long barrow, to the west of Bluestone Heath Road, Donington on Bain. Visible on aerial photography taken in 2008 and 1947, as an oval-shaped ditched enclosure, orientated north to south and with maximum dimensions measuring 41m by 22m. The internal mound is visible as the soilmark of a compacted surface. The barrow is located within, and may even have been incorporated within an extensive Iron Age or Roman settlement, possibly abutting part of a rectilinear enclosure complex (see MLI84752). This later settlement activity and subsequent extensive open field system of medieval ridge and furrow appears to have levelled the earthwork elements of the barrow. {1}{2}{3}
