Full Description
A chantry was founded by Lawrence de Leake about 1362. In 1609 there is mention of the 'Lesser chantrie called the moat house.' The Multon, or Great Chantry, at Old Leake is mentioned in 1391, and was dissolved in 1547. The house, which was moated, was much altered and repaired about 1800. A stone font was taken from the remains of the moat about 1816. The moat house was pulled down in 1835 and rebuilt in the original style, partly with the old materials. {1}{2}{3}
The 'moat house' is 19th century in date, and has been modernised. Published survey (25 inch) of moat revised. {4}
