Full Description

A brickworks is depicted here on the 1st and 2nd Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey maps (surveyed 1886 and 1905 respectively), as well as the 1946 revision of the Six-inch map. A series of long rectangular buildings with open sides, most likely sheds for the drying and storage of bricks, are depicted in the centre of the site. A large pond to the northeast of the site may have provided water for the brick-making process. By the time of the 1969 revision of the Ordnance Survey National Grid maps, the brickworks appears to have gone out of use and only a single building remains within its former compound. {1}{2}{3}{4} The earthwork banks of the site are clearly visible on both LIDAR and satellite imagery, and probably include some areas used for the extraction of brickearth. {5}{6}
