Full Description

A Vickers Wellington bomber aircraft crashed on land near to Asterby Top Farm, on the morning of Sunday the 22nd of February 1942. The aircraft was designated R1463 from 150 Squadron, based at RAF Snaith, and had been on an intruder sortie. While descending through cloud in order to establish their position, the bomber crashed at 03:30, into a field near to Asterby Top Farm (although the exact location remains uncertain). Four of the six crew members onboard perished in the crash, with the remaining two being recovered injured. {1}
