Full Description

A post-Medieval stone or chalk extraction pit, visible on historic mapping. On the 1st Edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map, published in 1888, the quarry is labelled as an 'old stone pit', and a group of four lime kilns is depicted in the centre of the pit. The 2nd Edition 25" map shows a deeper earthwork, labelled as a 'chalk pit', with no kilns depicted. {1}{2} The quarry can be seen on LIDAR imagery, and earthworks are visible within the pit that may represent the remains of former lime kilns. {3}
