Full Description

Wragby Fort, known locally as Bateman's folly, was a concrete structure across three floors measuring approximately 6 metres tall by 3.6m wide. The structure was built to overlook the confluence of four of the five main roads at Wragby by army Sergeant Bateman with the Royal Engineers who were stationed there. All levels had weapon sites with a mounting for a Bren light machine gun at the top. The building was demolished after the war and the exact location is uncertain, but was certainly in the western portion of the marketplace. {1}
