Full Description

A complex of outbuildings historically associated with Upton House Farm, on land to the rear of No. 1A Church Road, Upton. Five agricultural buildings were surveyed in February 2020, prior to their conversion to residential properties. The surviving buildings formed three sides of a formerly enclosed crewyard complex, with a further range to the east. The western range, visible on the 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey maps of Upton, was demolished at some time in the 20th century. The surveyed buildings included a former six bay stable with loose box and tack room, a two storey barn, several sheds or stores and a cart shed. Some buildings in the complex, including the barn, appear to have replaced earlier buildings on the same footprint, building on the original red/orange brick lower storeys with yellow and pink 'Kexby seconds' bricks above. The eastern 'spur' range appears to have been built later than the others, though still prior to the 1st edition OS map in 1887. {1}{2}
