Full Description

The fever wards of Stamford and Rutland General Infirmary (see MLI127365) were provided with their own mortuary and laundry and the complex was enclosed by a boundary wall, to prevent cross-contamination with the main infirmary wards. The entire enclosure was laid with concrete to help maintain good hygeine. A new detached mortuary was built in 1910. {1} The 2nd Edition 25 Inch Ordnance Survey map shows a line of trees close to the east wall of the enclosure, with paths connecting the various buildings and the two entrances to the north and south. {2}
