Full Description

Faint ridge and furrow trends identified in geophysical survey {1} were confirmed during excavations north of Sweyn Lane in advance of a large, residential development {2}{3}. The ridge and furrow on the site is on the same orientation as the area to the immediate south (MLI125412), and at approximately 90 degrees to the area to the northwest surviving in parts of the medieval deer park (MLI89167), suggesting the presence of a headland or boundary approximately along the route of The Belt Road. While the areas of ridge and furrow to the north and south of the site are upstanding {4}, no earthworks were present on the site during survey or excavation.
