Full Description
A geophysical magnetometry survey across two land parcels was undertaken in 2006, with the results suggesting the presence of enclosure boundaries in the northern field. {1}
Excavations in 2014 recorded substantial early medieval and medieval archaeology comprising possible settlement remains. A rectlinear enclosure was recorded along with a system of associated ditches. Pottery recovered ranged in date from 970 to 1650, with the majority dating to between 1250 and 1550. Wares present included Early Medieval Handmade ware, Lincolnshire Early Medieval Shellyware and Fine Shelled ware, Stamford Ware, Toynton Ware, and Torksey ware. Animal bone was recovered in quantities relating to the butchery of animals for consumption, along with domestic hearth waste. Evidence for barley production in the form of chaff was also recorded. The linear features appear to extent beyond the excavated area to the east and south, likely to the north as well. {2}{3}
