Full Description

Undated pits and a possible pond were identified during archaeological excavation at Lyncroft, Grange Lane, North Kelsey. A very large pit was considered of interest due to both the size, and the waterlogged lower fill. The large, sterile pit was not fully excavated as it extended beyond the required depth for the house footings being monitored, but it was excavated to 1.2m below ground level suggesting it is substantial. Three additional small pits were identified across the site, but were sterile. All four pits were observed to cut into a deposit identified as a possible buried ploughsoil. The nature of the cuts and deposits identified may suggest a link to the medieval grange to the immediate west. {1}{2}
