Full Description

At least two undated structures, a well and a cobbled surface on land to the east of Lincoln Road, Welton. The foundations of three sides of a rectangular structure of limestone rubble were revealed, adjacent to a curved limestone rubble wall foundation previously identified in trial trenching in 2007 (see ELI8710). To the west of these structures was the southwest corner of a third possible structure, also constructed of limestone rubble but narrower than the others. The foundation cuts of all three structures truncate several Roman or Saxon ditches or trenches and are therefore assumed to be Medieval or later in date. The well is sealed by the cobbled surface and therefore pre-dates it. The backfill of the well contained 16th-17th century roof tile and a single sherd of late Medieval pottery. {1}{2}
