Summary

Human remains were recorded at Laundon Road, Threekingham during a watching brief representing a minimum of seven individuals including one juvenile. Only one individual was found in association with an archaeological feature, a probable male 25-35 in an east-west aligned grave cut. The remaining six individuals were disarticulated and found in the topsoil.

Full Description

Human remains relating to a minimum of nine individuals were found during monitoring at Laundon Road, Threekingham. While digging house footings in Plot 1 a grave cut containing a probable male aged 25-35 was recorded. The alignment of the cut was estimated to be east to west and no grave goods were identified suggesting the possibility of a Christian burial, although no dating evidence was recorded. Plot 1 also contained disarticulated human bone recovered from the topsoil representing a minimum of five adults and one juvenile. Plot 2 contained three fragments of human bone representing at least one adult and one juvenile. There are unverified antequarian reports of large quantities of human bone in Threekingham, although they have not been archaeologically confirmed. [1}[2}
