Full Description

The cemetery at North Kelsey is believed to have been established in the late 19th century, and it remains in use to the current day. The cemetery does not appear on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map of 1887, but was present by 1889, where a public notice appears from the North Kelsey Burial Board receiving tenders for the laying of a subsoil drain at the 'new cemetery'. The first depiction of the cemetery is on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map of 1907, where it is shown with its General Mortuary Chapel (see MLI127118). The cemetery has not been extended beyond its original boundary during its lifetime. The cemetery was chosen as the location for the North Kelsey War Memorial, unveiled in 1920 (see MLI125282). {1}{2}{3}
