Full Description
Faint cropmarks of a probable Neolithic long barrow are visible on aerial photographs, taken of this area to the north-east of Walesby. The barrow is located on a ridge and is defined by a pair of approximately parallel ditches measuring some 70m in length and 18m wide. An area of paler colour within the ditches may represent the remains of mound material. The barrow lies to the south-east of a larger Bronze Age round barrow cemetery. {1}
The barrow also shows as a very slight and low-spread earthwork on a digital elevation model derived from 2m gridded height data. It is defined by three sides of a ditched rectilinear enclosure, elongated north-west to south-east and measuring 72m by 22m. The surviving mound is slightly off-centre to the ditched enclosure footprint, perhaps indicating a small migration of the mound material by ploughing. {2}
