Full Description
Cropmarks of a probable Iron Age or Roman settlement area are visible on aerial photographs, taken of this area to the east of Cold Harbour Farm, Stenigot. The cropmarks show a large rectilinear enclosure with internal divisions, with multiple ditches, pits and possible additional fragmentary enclosures extending to the south-east. These cropmarks could well be an extension of a similar area of probable Iron Age or Roman settlement activity to the north-west (see MLI127002). The main enclosure here measures roughly 100m by 35m, and whilst rectilinear, is irregular in form with a curving north-eastern side and internal divisions. More fragmentary cropmarks leading off to the south-east may be archaeological in nature, though geological marks are also present across this ridgeline. {1}{2}
