Full Description
Cropmarks of a probable Iron Age or Roman settlement area are visible on aerial photographs, taken of this area to the north-east of Cold Harbour Farm, Stenigot. The cropmarks show numerous adjoining and fragmented rectilinear enclosures, pits and ditches, all laid along a roughly north-west to south-east axis. The rectilinear enclosures appear to partially overlie the remains of a Neolithic long barrow (see MLI43185). The cropmarks are clearest around the apparent nucleus of the settlement, to the north-east of the long barrow, but become increasingly fragmentary as the settlement extends to the south-east. Some of the cropmarks may actually relate to geological activity, though others may also be marking the location of former round house ring ditches. {1}{2}{3}
