Full Description
Former public house. Two storey brick construction, under a pitched gabled tile roof. One and two storey ancillary buildings to the rear. There is evidence of multiple phases of building, the earliest of which is the early 18th or late 17th century structure to the west, comprising a ground floor bar with accommodation above. To the south of this is a modern single storey toilet block extension. Further west is a second building containing another bar with accommodation above, and a small modern conservatory extension to the south. Adjoining this to the east is a pair of converted former agricultural/ancillary buildings and a modern garage building incorporated into the original boundary walls. The western ancillary building appears to have had a stable at ground floor level with a hayloft and possible granary above, and is likely dated to the mid 19th century. The eastern ancillary building is a single storey with a wide opening to the south, and an infilled central door in the north elevation. Bullnosed bricks around the entrance in the south elevation indicate that it may have been used as animal accommodation, possibly a cattle shelter (though historic mapping shows no evidence of the usual associated yard). All of the buildings have undergone significant internal alteration in the 20th century, including the removal of door and window openings in the south elevation, the removal of original windows at first floor level, and the removal of fireplaces in the bar area. {1}
