ST JOHN'S CHURCH, BOSTON IS MENTIONED IN 1281. IT WAS LARGELY TAKEN DOWN IN 1584 AND THE REMAINDER REMOVED IN 1626. THE CHURCH STOOD ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE CHURCHYARD. GRAVEDIGGERS UNCOVERED A PEBBLED PAVEMENT WHICH IS PROBABLY THE CHURCH PATH, AND A BLACK MARBLE SLAB, FOUND 3 FT DOWN, SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN WITHIN THE CHURCH.{1}{2} THE PUBLISHED SITE AND SURROUNDING OPEN SPACE IS NOW IN USE AS A CHILDRENS PLAYGROUND. NO BUILDING REMAINS ARE VISIBLE.{1} EXCAVATION BY G BULLIVANT WAS ON A SITE JUST TO THE WEST OF ST JOHN'S CHURCHYARD. FINDS MAINLY POST MEDIEVAL. COUNCIL WORKMEN IN SAME AREA FOUND A CLAY OBJECT, POSSIBLY A STOPPER BUT PROBABLY PART OF A FINIAL.{3}
