Full Description

Fragments of a medieval aquamanile were found during structural works at the site of Lloyds Bank, conducted in the late 1960s. The vessel was in the form of a horse and rider, with the sherds being made of a hard sandy fabric, and the upper parts covered in a thick, dark copper green glaze. A Lincoln-type ribbed handle appeared to have accidentally adhered to the vessel during firing, although it is not clear if the vessel was discarded as a waster, or if it could have still functioned. {1}{2}
