Former school. Large one and a half storey red brick building with blue brick diapering and banding below the windows. Stone dedication plaque on the front gable. Polychromatic brick window arches. Stone coped gable. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that a National School existed in Claypole, but gives no further information. A new National School with outbuildings was built in 1868 at a cost of £500. {2}{3} The earliest phase of the school building, an irregular L-shape plan building, can be seen on the 1887 OS map of Claypole. There appears to be no change in the building's plan between 1887 and 1905. A new range was added to the east elevation between 1905 and 1919. Between 1919 and the mid-20th century a further, more extensive, range was erected to the rear of the school. {4}{5}{6}{7} By the late 1990s the teaching space in the building comprised five classrooms. The buildings ceased to be used as a school in the late 1990s or early 2000s, when the current school buildings were erected at the north end of School Lane. {8}
