Full Description
The White Hart Hotel had operated as White Hart Inn or White Har Commercial Inn since at least 1865. {1} The name will have changed to hotel at some point in the first half of the 20th century, when horses and carriages stopped being a common means of transport and the stabling aspect of inns became obsolete. {2} The hotel comprises what would have originally been two different attached buildings. The inn would have originally been confined to the northern of these two buildings. The southern building appears to have been a shop previously by the frontage and at some point was incorporated as part of the White Hart. Both buildings are two-storeys high, constructed of red brick with slate gabled roofs and four chimney stacks over all. The roof elevation of the southern building is higher. The front elevation of the southern part is rendered with white paint and the northern part with white roughcast. The ground floor front elevation of the southern part has from left to right, a doorway, a fixed panel bow bay window, another doorway, a fixed panel window. The first floor front elevation had three bar sash windows. The northern half ground floor has from left to right, two bar sash windows, a doorway and another bar sash window. The first floor has smaller bar sash windows above the ground floor windows and a commercial sign above the doorway. {3}
