Full Description

An early 19th century inn, in existence as early as 1814 {1}. The inn was converted into a dwelling in the second half of the 20th century. The building has an irregular plan, with what appears to be two main phases of construction from the difference in brick used. The northern half of the building is an earlier phase, probably late 18th, constructed of possibly hand-made red brick. The southern half is constructed of a more modern red brick, probably early to mid-19th century. The earlier northern phase is divided in two halves with slight variation in height, both have gabled roofs, the northen part with cement tiles and the southern part slate. The western street-facing elevation has two small windows and a bricked-up doorway. The later southern phase continues the roofline of the earlier phase and adds a higher two-storey slate hip roof block. The front or southern elevation of this block has a central door to the ground floor, flanked by a sash window at each side. On the first floor there are three sash windows. {2}{3}{4}
