Full Description

19th century school buildings. One and a half/two storey buildings of coursed stone, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Parapet gables coped in stone and part crow-stepped. Ashlar window dressings. The two storey L-shaped southern range was likely at one time a house for the schoolmaster; it can be seen as a separate building on the 1904 OS map. The infill between this and the main school building is in sympathetic style. Another sympathetic extension was added to the north end of the school in the 20th century. {1}{2} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that a National School existed in Grantham as early as 1812, though it is uncertain when the current buildings were erected. The school was originally divided by sex, with girls taught in the street-facing eastern range, and boys in the rear range. {3}{4}
