Full Description

19th century school building. Single storey building in ashlar, under an M-shape slate roof, with a large porch to the front elevation with entranceway now infilled. The porch gable has a datestone reading '1841'. Ashlar hood moulds above window openings. Gables coped in stone. Ashlar quoins. There is a single storey late 19th century extension to the rear in sympathetic style, now further extended with prefabricated and flat-roofed 20th century classroom buildings. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the village's National School was built in 1841 at a cost of £300, consisting of one schoolroom for boys and another for girls and infants. At the time of publication an additional schoolroom and classroom were being built, along with the schoolmaster's house (MLI126751). {2}
