Full Description

19th century school building. One and a half/two storey red brick building, under a pitched gabled tile roof. Stone door and window surrounds and hood moulds. Two ridge stacks. The bell gable still has both the bell and apparatus in situ. Brick buttresses with stone coping on front elevation. The two storey range to the east is likely the former schoolmaster's house. On the gable end of this range there is a datestone reading '1868'. There are modern classroom extensions to the rear. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the National School in Pointon was erected in 1867 with a residence for the teacher, at a cost of £500, with a small parochial library. It was attended in 1872 by 57 pupils of both sexes. {2}
