Full Description

Former school and schoolmaster's house. Large roughly T-shape plan building on the corner of St James' Churchyard. The eastern wing, shown on the 1904 OS map as an L-shape separate from the main building, is likely to be the former teacher's house. {1}{2} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the school and master's house were built on land given by Lord Willoughby and the late G. A. F. Heathcote, Esq. {3} The school closed in 1988, and was sold with planning permission for conversion to residential use in the mid 1990s. {4}{5}
