Full Description

19th century school building. One/one and a half storey yellow brick building with red brick banding and polychromatic window arches, under a pitched gabled slate roof. On the central cross-gable is a coat of arms with the date '1877' inscribed. Several large sympathetic modern extensions have been added to the northeast and west of the original building. {1} The 1904 OS map shows a northeast-southwest aligned range to the rear of the extant building in line with the central cross-gable, which appears to have been demolished during the 20th century to make space for a central courtyard playground. {2} White's 1856 and 1872 Trade Directories mention a National School in Bourne, built in 1829 and an Infant School built in 1856. It is unclear if either of these schools was built on this site before the current building. {3}{4}
