Full Description

Site of former National School. Built in 1849 and opened in 1950 to replace the National School site at South End built in 1815. White's 1872 Trade Directory describes the school as 'a neat range of buildings, in the Elizabethan style… attended by about 270 boys, and 170 girls'. {1}{2} The building is shown on the 1888 and 1905 OS maps of Boston in a T-plan form, presumably with the school fronting pump square and the masters' houses behind. {3}{4} Modern apartment buildings now occupy the site.
