Full Description

Former school. One and a half storey red brick building in Flemish Bond, under a pitched gabled tile roof. Coped gables. One lateral stack to rear, one gable stack. Window surrounds are dressed ashlar. Some modern alterations including two flat roofed dormers on the front roof pitch. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the school was built in 1867, paid for by Lord Aveland. It was reported to be 'well attended by children of both sexes'. {3} The school closed in 1981 after a protracted fight to keep it open. {4}
