Former school building. Large cross-wing plan red brick building with white brick quoins, window surrounds, and string courses, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Small bell gable on one of the cross-gables, though the apparatus has been removed. As of 2009 the building was in disuse. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory notes that Sutton Bridge had a school supported by the Governors of Guy's Hospital. By 1872 this had closed, having been run as a National School. A school run on the British system opened in its place in 1868, and was at the time attended by 100 pupils. A girls' school was also open in Sutton Bridge at this time, attended by 50 girls. It is unclear whether these schools were on this site. {2}{3} The former school building can be seen on both the 1887 and 1903 OS maps of Sutton Bridge. Aside from a small extension to the rear of one wing, it appears to maintain its original plan form. {4}{5} The junior pupils moved from the school to the current Westmere Community Primary School in the latter half of the 20th century.
