Full Description

Former school building. Single storey red brick building under a gently pitched hipped roof. Dedication stone on the front parapet inscribed 'BOARD SCHOOL FOR BOYS'. Extended in both directions along Church Street at some point during the 20th century. The building is now used by the United Services Club. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory lists an infants' school on Church Street, built in 1871. The 1905 OS map only shows one school building on Church Street, suggesting that the infants' school either closed or merged with the new Board School, which opened in 1877. By 1892 the attendance had increased to 191.The Board School closed in 1958 when the George Farmer School (now University Academy Holbeach) opened. {2}{3}{4}
