Full Description

Former Girls' National School building. One and a half storey rendered brick building in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled slate roof.Two lateral stacks. Single pitch catslide roofed porch. Dentil course below eaves interrupted by porch which appears to have been enlarged between 1887 and 1905. {1}{2}{3} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the school was built in 1851 at a cost of £200. In 1856 it was attended by 40 girls. By 1872 it was attended by 150 pupils. It was enlarged in 1866. At some point the school was closed, and the building was for a while reused as a Roman Catholic church. {4}{5}{6}
