Full Description

Former school buildings. Possibly built in two phases. Single storey range of red and yellow brick in Flemish Bond, under a pitched hipped roof of slate. Two ridge stacks and one lateral stack. Front elevation is five bay, with an infilled doorway at each end. To the west is a one/one and a half storey red and yellow brick range in English Bond with a street-facing gable, with a hipped roof to the west and a catslide roof to the south. Dressed ashlar window surrounds with polychromatic brick arches. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that Palmer's Grammar School charity was founded in Burgh le Marsh by a Jane Palmer of Newark. The charity had no schoolhouse until 1840, when this building was erected. {2} It is unclear when the building ceased to be used as a school.
