Full Description

Former school building. Cross-wing plan one and a half storey red brick building in English Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. The northern elevation has an unusual dutch gable, coped with stone. Two small protruding gables on the street-facing elevation have dedication stones above the windows that read on the left-hand gable 'EAST STOCKWITH AND WALKERITH' and on the right-hand gable 'BOARD SCHOOLS 1897'. Ornately carved bell gable on the southern elevation with scrollwork, though the bell and apparatus have been removed. Gables are all coped and corbelled in stone. A blue brick or tile string course runs around the building below window height. There appears to have been no significant modern alteration to the exterior and plan of the building. {1} The building is shown in its current plan form on the 1st and 2nd Edition 25 inch OS maps of East Stockwith. {2}{3} It is unclear when the school was closed. It is currently in use as a residential property.
