Full Description

19th century school building. One and a half storey red brick building in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. Originally two small likely cross-gabled porches, seen on the 1905 OS map and since demolished. During the 20th century a pair of larger cross-wings have been added to the southern end of the building with further infill added between them, obscuring most of the front elevation of the original building. {1}{2} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the school was built in 1845 by subscription and was at the time attended by 40 pupils. {3}
