Full Description
Former 19th century schoolmaster's house. Cross-wing plan two/three storey red brick building in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled tile roof. Blue brick banding on the southwest elevation. Elaborate dogtooth dentil course at eaves height. The southwest gable has a small two-storey turret from ground level. Window openings have coped brick hood moulds and yellow brick arches. Two gable stacks, one of which is very substantial. {1}
White's 1856 Trade Directory notes the existence of a house for the schoolmaster in association with the school founded in 1665 by Anthony Pinchbeck. It is unclear whether this is the same building White was referring to. {2}
This house can be seen in its current plan form on both the 1887 and 1905 OS maps of Butterwick, and appears to share a curtilage with the neighbouring school. {3}{4}
